Residents who turned 60 in 2013 will soon get cash aid from Cebu City

MORE senior citizens in Cebu City will be made beneficiaries of the P12,000 annual financial aid that the City Government has been giving to the elderly.

The City Council approved last June 4, 2019, the amendatory ordinance sponsored by Councilor Eugenio Gabuya Jr., which seeks to include senior citizens who turned 60 in 2013 in the list of qualified beneficiaries.

Requirements

They must, however, present a voter’s certification from the Commission on Elections and two documents that can attest that they were born and raised in the city.

This can be a marriage certificate showing they were married in the city or elementary or high school diplomas of any school in the city.

Under City Ordinance 2453, only those elderly who turned 60 in 2010 are qualified to receive the financial assistance of P1,000 each month.

The City had a cut-off on who qualified to receive the aid to prevent abuses.

At present, around 75,000 seniors get financial assistance from the City.

Under the amended ordinance, the budget for the financial assistance will be charged to the succeeding supplemental budget that the executive department will propose for the current year to allow the City to start the distribution this year.

Next year, the entire budget for the financial assistance will be included in the annual budget. (RVC)
