Cop ambushed in Bogo City; another nabbed for drugs

A POLICEMAN assigned at the Police Regional Office Cordillera was ambushed by four unidentified men on board a sports utility vehicle about 4 p.m. Friday, June 7 at the National Highway in Barangay Anunang Norte, Bogo City, Cebu.

Police Lieutenant Marcelo Cometa Jr., 48, a resident of Barangay Binabag, Bogo City, was onboard his motorcycle when the suspects waylaid him along Barangay Anunang.

He was shot in the right shoulder and suffered injuries to his face after his motorcycle hit the ground. He was brought to the Bogo City District Hospital where he is now recuperating.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Emely Santos, chief of Bogo City police said they suspect that the incident was work related upon learning that Cometa was assigned in Bogo between 2010 to 2011.

He was in Bogo City to attend several court hearings but it was not known what these cases were.

In Cebu City, a police officer of the Drug Enforcement Unit of Labangon police was arrested in a buy-bust past 6 p.m. also on Friday.

Arrested was Police Corporal Rogelio R. Atillo of the Labangon Police Station 10 who was caught with one sachet of shabu, his Glock 17 service firearm and P27,000 in marked money in the drug sting that happened in Caimito Street, Barangay Basak Pardo, Cebu City.

Atillo is currently detained at the Cebu City Police Office. He admitted that last week he sold 15 grams of shabu. (From AYB OF SUPERBALITA CEBU / VLA)
