THE northern town of Benguet in Bakun recently set a uniform amount of financial assistance to victims of disasters, distressed and displaced families and individuals in crisis.
The Municipal Council of Bakun on May 21 passed municipal ordinance no. 5 series of 2019 authored by Councilor June Suni-en providing uniform amount of aid for disaster victims.
In the 142nd Regular Meeting of Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Benguet on June 3, the ordinance was referred to corresponding committee for review.
The ordinance covers emergency shelter assistance of P20,000 for totally damaged residential homes and P1,000 to P10,000 for partially damaged houses.
The amount of assistance for partially damaged homes will be based on the assessment, evaluation, recommendation of the Municipal Social Welfare Office.
Funds for the implementation of the ordinance will be incorporated in the 70% pre-disaster preparedness component of the Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Fund of Bakun.
Under the 1991 new Local Government Code, the local government recognizes the need to provide financial assistance to victims of disasters, distressed and displaced families.
