Driver hailed for giving free rides to seniors, PWDs

ARAYAT -- A jeepney driver from this town have gone viral on social media platforms for his good deed of giving free fares to senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) passengers.

Rolando Andaya said that transporting passengers from the City of San Fernando to Arayat town and vice vera on a daily basis has been his livelihood for over a decade now.

“I worked as personal driver during my youth but when my employer retired, I decided to go back here in Arayat and bought my own jeep in 2005 and became a passenger jeepney driver until today,” he said.

Andaya said he has been giving rides to senior citizens and PWDs for many years now and was surprised when he knew that a video about his good deed taken by a passenger was uploaded and went viral on Facebook.

“It was just a typical afternoon for me but I guess my passenger was delighted when he knew what I was doing and uploaded it on Facebook. I was really thankful for my passenger for recognizing my little way of helping the elderly and the PWDs,” he said.

The video uploaded on Facebook have reached over 13,000 views and over 100 shares, and earned comments of admiration from netizens, most commending the good samaritan act of Andaya.

Mayor Emmanuel “Bon” Alejandrino also lauded his fellow Arayeteño and urged other drivers plying routes in this town to emulate Andaya’s act.

“Tatang Rodolfo ipinagmamalaki kita dahil isa ka sa mga dapat na tularan at ang mga kagaya mo ang dahilan ng pagunlad ng bayan dahil sa iyong kabutihan sa kapwa mo,” Alejandrino said.
