TWO persons died in a shooting incident in Barangay Nangka, Danao City, Cebu at dawn Sunday, June 9, 2019.
Authorities identified the victims as Christian Paduga, 18, and his friend Remy Capin, 20.
Police Staff Sergeant Ronald Gomez said the incident could be drug-related since they recovered a small sachet of shabu from the crime scene. They also found a tin foil, a lighter, a sweatshirt belonging to Capin’s brother, two caps and an empty shell of a 9mm pistol.
“It’s possible that they had a misunderstanding with the suspect as they were about to do their illegal activity,” Gomez said.
Capin reportedly had a criminal record for allegedly shooting a man in Sta. Rosa, Danao City.
Police Corporal Mark Anthony Manulat of the Danao City Police Office said they received the report of the incident around 5:30 am.
According to him, tanods heard gunfire in the area. But since the area is remote, they were not able to respond immediately.
“They ignored it at first since the houses there are from from each other and the area is very dark and has no cellular signal,” Manulat said in Cebuano.
He said the two victims had just come from a dance held in the barangay’s basketball court.
Gomez said Christian’s cousin Ken Vicent, who was on his way home aboard his motorcycle, saw the two men heading to the bank of a shallow river next to the basketball court.
An unidentified man, believed to be an acquaintance of Capin, was waiting for them there.
Gomez said they are looking for a person of interest, who has disappeared.
“We went to his house, but he was not there anymore. He was one of the last persons the victims were with before they died,” Gomez said.
The killer will be charged with murder, he said. “It’s because the crime was committed in an area that is not frequented by the public. Also because we did not find any signs of foul play or any commotion,” he said. (WBS)
