CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- HIS Excellency Florentino Lavarias, D.D., newly appointed archbishop of San Fernando, Pampanga will lead this year’s annual pilgrimage in honor of the Virgin Mary.
Under the title Virgen delos Remedios, the event will be held on September 20, Sunday, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles, California.
Delegations from Filipino and Spanish communities, Marian groups, civic organizations and devotees are expected to join the afternoon procession. This will be followed by a solemn mass and floral offering.
Vidal Aguas, focal person for the event, said that the festivity coincides with the 59th canonical coronation anniversary of Virgen de los Remedios.
Devotion to the Virgen de lo Remedios dates back to the galleon trades between Mexico and the Philippines in the 1500s.
"Numerous miracles and answered prayers are attributed through the intercession of Virgen de los Remedios. Marriages are strengthened, families reunited, sick get healed and disputes are settled," Aguas said.
The image of Virgen de los Remedios will be on display at the Cathedral a week before and after the celebration to allow devotees to present their petitions.
