The company officials, in a media briefing at L’Fisher Hotel in Bacolod City Monday, June 10, said GMEA, on its seventh year, is giving weight to stories with social impacts.

“We look forward to articles and reports that have created an impact to the society,” they said, adding that these should be anchored on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Launched in Cebu and Davao in 2012, the annual media excellence awards has eventually expanded to other cities in the Visayas and Mindanao including Bacolod, Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro, General Santos and Zamboanga.

It took a break last year to give way for some improvements, the company said.

For this year, the award will underscore influencing conversations to achieve social impact. It will highlight various pressing issues like on infrastructure and transportation, among others.

“What the media can do in influencing these discussions to create positive societal impact,” it added.
