Martin in no hurry for a title fight

AFTER easily disposing his Thai rival on Sunday, Ifugao boxing sensation Carl Jammes Martin said a shot at the world title can wait.

Martin scored his 13th straight victory against Yuttichai Wannawong of Thailand in the 1st round Sunday afternoon at the TV5 Studio in Novaliches, Quezon City.

The Ifugao lad, in his second televised bout showed his wares early on to secure his 12th career knock–out which handling Wannawong alias Rungpetch Saikaew Boxing Camp his 9th loss.

“Sa ngayon hindi pa po ready for world championship. May three years pa po tayong kailangang more epexerince bago mapasabak sa championship. Hindi naman po matagal kasi para sa paghahanda po ng katawan ko para ready sa championship,” said Martin in a post-fight interview against his taller opponent.

Martin added the height was never a disadvantage for him as he has fought taller guys before, whom he also knocked out before Wannawong.

“Hindi po talaga alam na matatapos ng first round. Unang–una pinag aralan talaga namin yung galaw nya hindi katulad nung huling beses na basta basta na lang bumibitaw ng suntok ng wala naman sa hulog,” he said.

Martin added he has also adjusted to the bright lights of Manila having fought twice on live television.

“Nung unang fight, hindi ko po masyadong ma focus yung sarili ko kasi may camera. Ngyon naman po medyo naging relax na,” added the 20–year–old rising boxing star.

Martin debut in Manila under ESPN TV5 banner in February this year as he retired Petchchorhae Kokietgym in the third round.

“Nung mga nakaraang fight ko hindi po talaga ma cover ng tv, ngayon po inaabang abangan ko tong makita ng ibang bansa yung ibang laro ko at madiscover pa kung ano pa po ang kulang,” added Martin.

Although Martin is being compared to Senator Manny Pacquiao, he said he never intended to mimic the eight division world champion because it’s his natural move.
