Alagang Nanay, Oro’s mother support center

IN A bid to provide assistance and solutions to mothers in Cagayan de Oro City, Modern Nanays of Mindanao founder Nadine Angelica Gadia Casiño officially opened the first mother support center in the city.

Alima (bisaya word that means to nurture, foster or support) is a mother support center and dependable partner in pregnancy, breastfeeding and child care.

It offers services and products to care for mothers to give their little ones the best start in life.

Among its services are:

- Haplos: Prenatal Massage, wherein it involves light gentle strokes that help improve blood circulation and promotes muscle relaxation;

- Gabay: Breastfeeding Counseling, wherein Alima can help meet mothers’ breastfeeding goals by giving them evidence-bsaed information and skilled lactation support;

- Balik: Relactation Therapy. Bringing back dried up milk through the process called relactation, an effective intervention which requires full trust and commitment; and

- Alima Gold: Lactation Massage Therapy, the trademark golden service of Alima. Mothers can get a full relaxing experience of a postnatal massage along with a lactation massage to loosen clogged ducts and help stimulate milk glands to help boost milk supply.

Alima official opened its door to mothers in need of help and support last Saturday, June 8 at Unit 4B H Building, Mastersons Avenue, Upper Balulang, this city.

“Alima was born out of the experiences nako and sa mga mama that I have met from Modern Nanays of Mindanao nga kanang who takes care of us when we feel so sad and alone and overwhelmed?” Casiño said.

“We need to remember that the best way to take care of the children is to take care of ourselves. A mom and a child should be a one unit, so if one is not taken care of, both will really have bad effects on each other,” she added.

As a place of solace for mothers who are overwhelmed with motherhood, Casiño said moms are welcome to visit Alima to “get into perspective whatever they are feeling.”

“This is the first place that offer moms the rest and care that they need and deserve while juggling all the things that is concerned with motherhood,” she said.

From Monday to Saturday at 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., mothers can avail to their services and products from momtreprenuers such as cloth diapers, baby wearing cloths, bras for breastfeeding moms, lactation cookies, organic insect repellent spray, organic deodorants, among others.

Alima also conducts workshops, namely: PUYA Newborn Baby Workshop held last week at New Dawn Plus hotel; KAYA Working Mom Workshop to be help in July; and KAIN Complementary Feeding Workshop in August.

“We are inviting mothers to come and experience Alima. It is the first of its kind service in Cagayan de Oro. Before you give up, before you reach out to buy some milk, why not experience Alima first and maybe we can fix whatever problems that you have,” Casiño said.

“The sooner you see us, the sooner we can fix your problems and you won’t regret it because it isn’t always easy but it will always be worth it,” she added.
