‘Wrecking crew’ blamed for Indahag’s water crisis

RESIDENTS of Barangay Indahag in Cagayan de Oro City have been complaining of “no water supply” for weeks now over busted water pipes.

Indahag village chair Jocelyn Dahino said unidentified persons keep destroying their water pipes for over 10 times already.

Dahino said, since she assumed as the village chief last year, this incident has persisted. The recent case was on Sunday, June 9, where suspects used a “hand saw” to cut the lines.

In the previous incidents, suspects used pliers, stone to destroy the lines, and even burned some of the pipes.

The water lines are located in a forested area, she said. Indahag is getting its water from Mapawa, some seven kilometers away from the said barangay.

She said it is impossible to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras since the area is remote from the barangay proper. Barangay tanods also cannot monitor the area 24/7 for the same reason.

Destroying the water pipes already causes almost zero supply of water to majority of the residents in Barangay Indahag.

“It is really a hassle for us residents kay halos tibuok taga-Indahag maapektuhan. We hope mapadali ang investigation ug ma pinpoint kinsa ang suspects para mapanubag,” she said.

City Administrator Teddy Sabuga-a already offered a reward for anyone who can identify the suspects of the crime.
