Negros’ 2020 IRA share up 12.75%

NEGROS Occidental and its component cities and municipalities including Bacolod City will have a 12.75 percent in its Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) in 2020.

Jose Percival Salado, provincial budget officer, on Monday, June 10 said the provincial government will have an increase in IRA share of P400 million.

Among the cities in Negros Occidental, Kabankalan City has the biggest IRA next year with P141.58 million while among the municipalities it is Cauyan with P36.4 million, a copy of the breakdown obtained by the media showed.

Overall, they will have a total of P16.64 million in IRA next year from the current P14.76 million or an increase of P1.88 million.

This will mean more services and projects for the people, Salado said.

He added that the total money from all the IRAs in the province will be P17 billion.

"Its big money for the local economy. This comes from the big increase of revenues in the national government and also meant that there is effective tax collection at the local level," he pointed out.

Salado said that the increase is not part of the decision issued by the Supreme Court last week on the Mandanas case.

However, Salado said the increase will not be enough to cover the provincial government's going over the limit for Personnel Services budget.

"We will discuss the matter with transition committee," he said.
