Environmental group welcomes change of PEMO head

GREEN Alert Network, a Negros- based environment group said a new head of the Provincial Environment and Management Office of Negros Occidental will mean “new blood.”

"It is time for PEMO to have new blood," Rusty Biñas, GAN founder, said.

Lawyer Wilfred Ramon Peñalosa current PEMO head confirmed that he is resigning from his post as department head when outgoing Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. steps down on June 30.

Peñalosa cited "personal reasons" for resigning from the provincial government.

“The issue on illegal structures in the Northern Negros Natural Park (NNNP) is one of the responsibilities of PEMO because of the Integrated Social Forestry (ISF) Associations in Negros Occidental,” Biñas said.

The ISF is composed of producers or farmer-members who take part on the environmental consumerism and growth within the province.

The GAN founder added that the resignation "will make room for newer or better solutions from whoever will be appointed as the new PEMO head."

A new head will also mean the possibility of "a new approach at solving and addressing environmental concerns," Biñas said.

Governor- elect Eugenio Jose Lacson will take over the reins of the Capitol on July 1.
