CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- It will be a festive rainbow month of June as the City Government of San Fernando celebrates the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender or LGBT Pride Month.

City of San Fernando Mayor Edwin Santiago said this year’s events are a testament to the city’s inclusive approach to the LGBT sector.

He added that the events aim to empower the said sector and recognize their roles as beautiful and productive members of the city.

“The city recognizes the contributions of the LGBT sector in building our communities and in the development of our city. We hope that with these activities, the other sectors of the community would be able to recognize the rights of our LGBT sector,” Santiago added.

The June Pride Month event started with the unveiling of the month-long activities at the City Hall.

The LGBT Community will be hosting an LGBT Rainbow Pride Walk similar to the Mardi Gras events of LGBT communities abroad.

Siwala president Randy Ocampo, who heads the local LGBT groups in the city, said they are expecting the participation of LGBTs from different communities and age groups. He was quick to clarify that the pride walk is not just for the LGBT community but also for people who are in support of LGBT rights and advocacies.

The pride walk is scheduled on June 14.

There will also be a seminar and orientation on business opportunities to give LGBT members a chance to explore possible business prospects. The orientation will give LGBT participants the basic know-how on starting their business opportunities.

The LGBT members with an inclination towards beauty care will also be given further training on beauty aesthetics on June 15.

The June Pride Month events will be capped with a forum on LGBT rights, defense, promotion and protection.

This year’s events run under the theme “Magkakaiba, Nagkakaisa, Kaantabay sa Pagsulong ng Bayan.”
