Island Paints, Phoenix Building System advance to A+E semifinals

ISLAND Paints and Phoenix Building System didn’t need to use their twice-to-beat advantage after advancing to the next round of the Architects+Engineers (A+E) Basketball Club Corporate Cup 2019.

The top two teams won their respective quarterfinal games at the University of San Carlos main gym on Saturday, June 8, 2019.

The top-seeded Island Paints totally dominated Buildrite with a lopsided 117-41 win. It was a total team effort by the Island Paints with six players scoring in double figures, while the rest of the players scored at least two points.

Criz Matunog led the pack with 21 points and five rebounds, four assists and two steals; while Chester Hinagdanan added 20 points, six assists and four steals. Chad Go chipped in 19, Ralph Catugas had 17, while Michael Judilla and John Famoso added 12 points apiece.

Ian Cordova was the lone Buildrite player in double digits with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

The No. 2-seeded Phoenix Building System also barreled through its competition with an 80-59 drubbing of AVC Development & Construction.

Rodney Labang led Phoenix with a double-double of 12 markers and 10 boards. Ritchie Bactol also added 12, while Nikko Punay contributed 10.

Gerald Jayme was AVC’s leader with 20 points and six rebounds, while Jason Batoon chipped in 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Thinking Tools also moved on to the semifinals after a 74-60 win over Davies Paints.

Filmon/Dormakaba, on the other hand, forced a do-or-die quarterfinal match with higher seed Toyota Mabolo after 72-59 win. (EKA)
