7 hurt in army truck-motorcycle collision

SEVEN people, including four children, were injured in a head-on collision between a military truck and motorcycle in Basilan province, the police said Tuesday, June 11.

Police Major Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said the incident happened around 7:45 a.m. Tuesday in Baluno village, Isabela City, the capital of Basilan.

Galvez identified the victims as follows: Isma Abing Sabdani, 40, the motorcycle driver; Hamja Sabdani, 18; Radmi Samonte, 14; Steefi Gimeno, 13; Krizzle Andico, 15; Keith Lawrence Andico; and Charmaine Enriquez, 14.

She said investigation showed the two vehicles were traveling from opposite directions and collided after the motorcycle encroached the lane of KM-450 military truck driven by Ahmad Awali, 46, a soldier.

The police officer said Sabdani, the motorcycle driver, sustained serious head injury and fractured right leg while the other victims, who are all his passengers, suffered minor injuries.

Sabdani and three of his passengers were later brought to a hospital in Zamboanga City, she added. (SunStar Philippines)
