ONLY eight of the 17 Cebu Provincial Board (PB) members accepted an invitation of outgoing Gov. Hilario Davide III and showed up to a meeting on possible changes to the legislative body’s house rules.
Davide, incoming vice governor and presiding officer of the PB, called for the meeting set for last Monday, June 10, 2019.
Aside from Davide, present in the meeting were reelected PB Members Raul Bacaltos (first district), Jose Mari Salvador (second district), Victoria Corominas-Toribio (third district), Horacio Paul Franco (fourth district) and Miguel Antonio Magpale (fifth district).
Also present were ex-officio members Celestino Martinez III (Association of Barangay Councils Cebu president), Irving Gamallo (Philippine Councilors League Cebu acting president) and Jerico Rubio (Sangguniang Kabataan Federation Cebu president).
Of those who attended, only Bacaltos and Toribio were not part of Davide’s slate in the elections last May 13.
Those not able to attend were reelected PB Members Yolanda Daan (first district), Edsel Galeos (second district), Thadeo Jovito Ouano (sixth district), Jerome Librando (seventh district) and Christopher Baricuatro (seventh district).
Except for Librando, all absent reelected PB members are allies of governor-elect Gwendolyn Garcia.
Galeos and Baricuatro were on vacation leave, while Daan had to attend to her sick husband.
Librando reported sick, while Ouano did not specify his reason for not attending.
Newly elected and incoming PB members John Ismael Borgonia (third district), Kerrie Keane Shimura (fourth district), Andrei Duterte (fifth district) and Glenn Anthony Soco (sixth district) were also absent.
A follow-up meeting was set for next Wednesday, June 19. (RTF)
