SENATOR-ELECT Imee Marcos expressed interest to head the Senate committee on social justice and social welfare committee to help address poverty in the country.

“Sa mga committee, hindi naman ako masyadong mapili kasi alam ko naman unang-una mga neophyte man kami, mga bag-o man so medyo back-up dancer pa lang kami sa mga sikat and then the other thing is broad-ranging din naman ang ating interest dahil nanggaling ako sa local, obligado tayo to do a little of everything,” Marcos said in an interview yesterday.

She added, “I put my name down for social justice, social welfare kasi interesado ako sa poverty reduction tapos I’m also interested in energy kasi nga ‘yong mga windmill namin and also baka electoral reform, agriculture for sure. Okay lang sa akin kahit ano-ano.”

Marcos is set to assume the senatorial post on June 30 and she said that she has been eager to start her work sooner to help push for the agenda of President Rodrigo Duterte.

One of the priority agenda that she wanted to bring forward is the plight of the farmers.

“There are a lot of priority bills that have remained pending and we wish to push the agenda of President Duterte, yong kanyang priority lalong lalo na yong effectivity of the budget so that we can avoid another budget impasse that will delay Build, Build, Build for six months,” she added. (JCR)
