DURING the 121st Philippine Independence Day, Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno reminds the public that the quest for independence should continue and is never-ending.

Moreno also urged the public to always remember and honor the heroes who paved the way for our country's independence. He also said that “independence is earned and acquired.”

“It is not a gift, but result of a struggle, result of the continuing effort. There are costs of independence, the lives of our heroes,” he said.

Moreno also added that although we have enjoyed our freedom, the country still has not “achieved full independence.”

He said the quest for independence is a continuing one and that every generation has a role to play for this fight.

The mayor noted that the country is still facing many challenges, including peace in Mindanao, and the basic needs of the people.

“We still continue to face these social issues and every generation has a role to play in regard to that quest for independence,” he added.

Government officials graced the commemoration of the 121st Independence Day led by Mayor Moreno and Major General Nemesio Gacal, commander of the 4th Infantry Division.
