Reelected mayor urges San Fernando-Clark link

REELECTED City of San Fernando Mayor Edwin Santiago said his city needs to be connected to Clark Freeport in order to keep face with the massive development.

During a meeting with Pampanga Press Club (PPC) members last week, the reelected city mayor said the city and other areas in Pampanga and Central Luzon will depend on Clark, which is the center of development in the region.

Even the Build Build Build infrastructure of President Duterte is centered in Clark, the mayor added.

Although it hosts government centers and the Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando cannot be a sustainable city without the help of Clark because it lacks infrastructures like airport, seaport, and others, Santiago said.

“We cannot be a sustainable city because we lack facilities although our city is regional center and capital town. We don’t have an airport and a seaport. So we need to connect to Clark. The city should become zero kilometer and be a part of the whole thing,” the three-termer mayor said.

Based on the analysis of the experts about the golden triangle, the future will be Clark and Subic, he added.

“If you will look at the golden triangle, the toe will still be the City of San Fernando,” Santiago said.

A civic center will be established at the heart of the city in Barangay Sindalan where the Mexico tollgate of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) is located, the official added.

“So that it will be faster to connect the city to the North, Clark and also Metro Manila. That area will be expanded and be declared as an economic zone,” Santiago said.
