Espedilla: Problem with dead nails?

DEAR Dr. Fritz,

Good day to you, doc. I am writing you, doc because of my toenail problem. Gosh! I am so embarrassed. I can’t wear anything that reveals my toes. My nails are dead and ugly. They crack and they are yellowish. Why do I get them? What should I do?

Please help me, doc. Thanks for your help.

Dear Dead Nails of Carmen,

The problem with toenail fungus is they seemed hard to treat. It will take a while for you to treat them. You have to have a load of patience and persistence to keep on with your medicines. Just keep the faith, hold on, and never ever lose hope.

It seems to me that your problem really is toenail fungus. However, to be sure if it is really one, I hope you can see your dermatologist - just to see if you don’t have psoriasis. Yeps! Psoriasis can unfortunately look like toenail fungus. That is why you have to make sure so that the treatment will be proper.

There are a lot of reasons why some people do get this problem. Men more likely get them than women. So, if you are a female and you get them, you are one of the unlucky ones. hehe. The older you get, the more chances you will have this toenail menace. Moreover, if you have diabetes, athlete’s foot, or weak immune system, then, the more prone you are to get this. If you are also smoking and you have family member who have them, then, you also have more chances to get them.

Since we don’t have a lot of space for now, so, let me then, continue this in my next issue. Until then!
