Beauty queens visit wounded soldiers

SOLDIERS confined at the Philippine Army’s Camp Evangelista Station Hospital (CESH) were treated to an Independence Day surprise as reigning Miss Kuyamis 2019 beauties paid them a visit on Wednesday, June 12, 2019.

The 11 Misamis Oriental beauties were joined by members of the Cagayan de Oro Hotel and Restaurant Association (Cohara). They paid tribute to the heroism and sacrifices of Filipino soldiers as the entire nation celebrated the 121st Independence Day on Wednesday.

The group distributed gift packs and joined the soldiers confined at the hospital for a simple lunch.

Cohara's immediate past president Nelia Lee said the simple tribute was their way of expressing their gratitude to the Filipino soldiers.

“We are here today to share our blessings to our dear heroes. We are aware of your great sacrifices for our country, and we would like to honor you even in a small way. Thank you for your service,” Lee was quoted as saying.

Maj. Gen. Franco Nemesio Gacal, the Commander of 4th Infantry Division (4ID) said the visit was a morale booster for the soldiers.

“In behalf of our soldiers and their families, thank you very much for honoring the sacrifices of our soldiers- our modern day heroes. This is truly a morale- booster to our soldiers and their dependents,” Gacal said.

The army hospital confines soldiers being treated due to various combat- related injuries.

Meanwhile, the 4ID soldiers also celebrated the Independence Day with a static and kinetic display of the soldiers' modern weaponry and equipment at Ayala Mall.

The static and kinetic displays featured assorted capabilities including modern weaponry and equipment, and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) capability. Soldiers from the Army’s elite units namely, the First Scout Ranger Regiment and Special Forces Regiment also showcased their warfighting skills and equipment.

A peace concert courtesy of the Diamond Troopers band was also held on Wednesday.
