Hunt on vs 2-year-old boy's murderer

INVESTIGATORS are looking at a person of interest (POI) who may have had a hand in the death of a two-year-old boy who was found dead inside a container in Casinglot, Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental, Wednesday night, June 12.

The victim was identified as Renz Gubat, who was believed to have been drowned inside the container at a boarding house situated just a few meters away from the victim's residence.

The container was placed just beside the boarding house where the dirty kitchen and comfort room are also situated.

Police Corporal Jackilou Malagamba, chief of the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) of Tagoloan town police, said there is a high possibility of foul play based on the initial investigation.

"Nasuta namo sa kamatayon sa bata nga naay foul play kay kung aksidente nga nahulog siya sa laton iyang ulo unta nag una pero sa atong nakita plastar iyang position nga nagtupong iyang ulo ug tiil then ang tubig himabaw sa iyang baba ug ilong unya gitakloban," Malagamba said.

Prior to the incident, the victim was seen playing with his older brother near their house. He was gone after about 10 minutes.

Malagamba said no one from the neighborhood admitted that they saw the victim being carried from their house to the crime scene.

"Walay nagtug-an nga naa silay nakita or nadunggan nga batang naghilak dihang nakalabay sa mga tugkaran sa mga silingan," Malagamba said.

"First time daw sa bata nakaabot didto ingon sa mga residente," she added.

Investigators also said they have not seen signs of resistance from the victim's body. However, the victim will likely undergo autopsy to determine the cause of death.

"Kung mosugot ang pamilya nga ipa-autopsy ang bata para mahibal-an ang cause of death kung gipatay ba siya una ayha gisulod sa laton or didto na siya gilumsan," Malagamba said.

Malagamba said a couple who were among the renters claimed that the container was empty and that they were surprised when another renter shouted for help upon seeing the boy inside the container.

The WCPD said the person of interest is among those they interview who showed inconsistencies on the statements during the investigation.

Malagamba is also calling the neighbors and all those who have knowledge on the incident to appear and help solve the case to bring the perpetrators to justice.

"Ang atong POI daghan kaayo sayop-sayop ug inconsistencies sa iyang statement. Dili sa nato nganlan kay ato paman palawman pa ang atong investigation," Malagamba said.
