Citizen’s participation in security pushed

A RANKING official of the Police Regional Office–Cordillera (PRO–COR) called on the public to strengthen its participation with law enforcement agencies in addressing various forms of criminality in the region.

Police Brigadier General Israel Ephraim Dickson, director of PRO–COR, reiterated the importance of the community in confronting crimes reiterated the importance of the community in confronting crimes during the 121st anniversary of Philippine Independence Day celebration at the PFVR Gymnasium in Baguio City.

“Aside from our partners in law enforcement, we call on the public to strengthen their participation in addressing not only criminality, but the enemy of poverty such as illegal drugs, terrorism, corruption and insurgency among others. That is why we need the timely information coming from the public for us to implement the necessary actions regarding this matter,” Dickson said.

He also encouraged the youth to be one with government in fighting criminality by providing timely information on any criminal activities they may observe.

“Just like what Dr. Jose Rizal said, the youth is the future of our nation and being such, we must help them to help us by giving Information needed by law enforcement agencies for us to act particularly on illegal drugs. They should avoid those things which may destroy them and their future, which is considered as an enemy of the state,” he added.

Dickson also recognized the efforts done by the surviving veterans of World War 2 and acknowledged their contribution to the freedom the country.

“We recognize our veterans of World War 2 who have fought for our freedom and independence to which some have even made the ultimate sacrifice. Their contributions to the freedom that we now observe is a manifestation of their nationalism, patriotism and love for country which must be emulated,” Dickson added.

Baguio City Representative Marquez Go, Mayor Mauricio Domogan and Vice Mayor Edison Bilog also delivered their messages on the commemorative program with this year’s theme, “Kalayaan 2019: Tapang ng Bayan, Malasakit ng Mamamayan.”

This year’s observance of Philippine Independence in the countries summer capital was capped with a civic parade led by cadets of the Philippine Military Academy which passed by historic Session Road and ended at the Melvin Jones Grandstand at Burnham Park.
