EASTERN Communications is expanding its fiber optic footprint to the southern and northern parts of Cebu in a bid to help both small, medium and big enterprises in their businesses.

Michael Castañeda, head of sales of Eastern Communications, said the company is responding to the government’s call of providing connectivity to far-flung areas in the country, especially in Cebu.

“Cebu is a growing market and we want to grow with Cebu. Wherever the government wants, we go there,” he said.

He said they are focused on the enterprise segment, both on the big companies and emerging ones.

“Big and existing clients of Eastern are basically more on that segment. We also cater to the manufacturing segment and different industries we can serve as long as it’s connectivity and managed services,” Castañeda said.

Mark Pepino, cluster head of the regional operation group, said they currently have a fiber optic network running around Metro Cebu, which covers areas like the Cebu IT Park and Mandaue City.

They are also in the process of expanding to San Fernando and Carcar City in the south, and Danao City in the north by the third quarter of 2019.

“Majority of our corporate business caters to business process outsourcing companies, universities, hotels and hospitals. This includes English online schools which are really increasing right now and being aggressive in the market,” Pepino said.

He also noted that some companies want to position themselves outside the city, making it an opportunity for Eastern Communications to serve them.

“As long as there’s internet, it’s more strategic for them to do business and at the same time help the local government in those areas,” he said.

Castañeda said they are investing heavily in fiber optics to continuously upgrade their services.

Eastern Communications offers Fiber1, which runs purely on Eastern’s fiber optic links, with available speeds from 10 mbps to 100 mbps, suitable for basic business operations of small to medium enterprises.
