THE National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) called on telecommunications companies to improve their services, particularly broadband, in Central Luzon region.

NTC Central Luzon Regional Director Azor Sitchon on Wednesday, June 12, 2019, initiated a technical conference with telecommunications giants Globe and Smart to discuss the status of their services.

Sitchon instructed the telcos to strengthen their signals in public elementary and secondary schools in line with the Department of Education’s vision to provide reliable internet connectivity to public schools in the country.

“We have conducted surveys in the region, including those in public schools to check on the strength of the internet connectivity and we summoned the two telcos to discuss and validate with them the results of the survey,” Sitchon said.

Based on the surveys, almost 90 percent of the region has internet connectivity but the speed varies on the strength of signal.

“We are instructing them to improve their services, especially broadband services, so that their clients can maximize their use and the payment they are giving and of course, as part of their compliance to the government,” he said.
