Lapu-Lapu to celebrate cityhood

MALACAÑANG has declared Monday, June 17, 2019 a special non-working holiday in Lapu-Lapu City, which will celebrate its 58th Charter Anniversary.

There will be no classes and work in both public and private sectors.

Proclamation No. 737, which carries the holiday declaration, was signed last June 11 by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea in behalf of President Rodrigo Duterte.

The Charter Day celebration will start at 7:45 a.m. with a flag-raising ceremony at the City Hall.

Outgoing Mayor Paz Radaza will lead the event, which will be attended by the city government’s employees.

Afterwards, Radaza will deliver her last speech as mayor in a short program. She said she will thank the employees for helping her administration in serving the city.

The city government has prepared activities for the rest of the day. In the evening, an environment-oriented pageant—Miss Go Green 2019—will be held at the Hoops Dome.

The beauty contest is in line with the International Environment Month, which is observed every June. (from GCM of SuperBalita Cebu/KAL)
