Police nab 143 election gun ban violators

A TOTAL of 143 people were arrested for violation of the election gun ban from January 13 to June 12 here in Zamboanga Peninsula.

Police Brigadier General Froilan Quidilla, Police Regional Office (PRO)-Zamboanga Peninsula director, said that 132 of the 143 arrested violators were civilians, three government troopers, three security guards, and five government officials.

Quidilla said the violators were arrested during the conduct of checkpoints, drug busts, police patrols and response, implementation of search warrant and other police operations.

He said they have confiscated 132 small guns, three light weapons, two gun replicas, nine improvised firearms, 25 grenades, 28 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), 1,378 rounds of ammunition, and nine bladed weapons.

He commended the PRO-Zamboanga Peninsula personnel and their counterpart in the military and other law enforcement agencies for the successful enforcement and implementation of the election gun ban across the region.

The police director said the successful implementation of the gun ban has resulted in the peaceful and orderly conduct of May 13 midterm polls here in the region. (SuNStar Philippines)
