OUR dads are usually associated with this strict and dominating aura and their admirable roles as the pillars of the family. But beyond this seemingly tough and authoritative cloak is a gentle and light-hearted soul. Surely, most people have had unforgettable moments with their fathers; those that tickle the heart and the funny bone. In celebration of Father’s Day, these readers recall the funniest moments they had with their dear Dads.

“My dad is a Drama King. One day, he sent us a video, a scene from the movie “Anak” starring Vilma Santos and Claudine Barreto. From the clip, Vilma Santos returns home after working abroad only to find out that her family has fallen apart in her absence. My Dad was still in KSA that time and his crazy children did not take the message seriously as he just wanted to make fun of us. From then, every time we would go on video calls, I would reenact the scene from the movie with exaggeration and he would always bursts out laughing, especially to that part ‘ibabalik kita sa tiyan ni Maring!’ (our grandmother). He would also answer me back with some random line from that movie.” Kris Jon Jay Aranilla, 23, architecture graduate

“My funniest moment with my Dad is when we were out of the country and we’re about to get in a small elevator that could barely fit the six of us. As the elevator was about to close, my brother farted and my dad got so angry that it made him say something to him. It was tense but when we talk about that, it always makes us laugh.” Jeanes Bontilao II, 22, civil engineering student (USC)

“Dad once took me out fishing and I eventually got so bored that he allowed me to use one of his favorite fishing rods. While using it and waiting for some catch, unfortunately I thought it got stuck in a rock because it was too heavy to pull out. I thought my Dad was going to scold me but it turned out I caught a really huge crab. That was really funny and unforgettable.” Patricia Camille Alindajao, 23, architectural apprentice

“It was when I started goofing off dancing to the loud music played when we welcomed the new year. My sister, who has autism, followed me dancing and then surprisingly, Dad started to dance with us, too. We all started laughing because it was never in our nature to dance as a family. It was a good memory as a family.” Jyle Mariz Maraton, 26, interior designer/college instructor
