Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental's winning gown made by detainees

UNHERALDED may be to some but the craftsmanship of detainees at Angeles City District Jail helped newly-crowned Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental Emma Mary Tiglao elicit the accolades.

This, as known personalities and institutions took to the internet to express their elation for Emma, a Mabalacat lass who was the lone representative of Pampanga to the prestigious beauty pageant held Last Sunday, June 9.

The gown designed by Rich Sabinian gave Emma the National Costume award during the coronation night.

The fabric of this “masterpiece” was woven by resident basket weavers of Angeles District jail male dorm according to the Facebook account of BJMP Angeles District Jail. Photos of Emma visiting the detainees while weaving and also wearing the finished gown are posted in the said account.

“Thank you Ms. Emma and Sir Rich for entrusting this creation to the skillful hands of our PDLs (Persons Deprived of Liberty), truly a Kapampangan pride.”Kapampangan ku, Pagmaragul ku!” the post said.

Greetings and elation

The Miss Intercontinental, as an organization, congratulated its new princess on social media.

“Congratulations Emma Mary Tiglao from Pampanga who won the Miss Intercontinental Philippines crown. Congratulations!” said in its Facebook post.

Dr. Irineo Alvaro, chairman of BB International which staged the Miss Midori Clark in December last year also conveyed his greetings while in New York.

“Congratulations to Emma who, upon seeing her join Miss Midori Clark, is undoubtedly in the mold of a national beauty titlist. We will not be surprised if she bags titles from abroad. Such pride she brings to Midori, Pampanga and the whole Philippines,” Alvaro said in a text message.

The alma mater of Emma took to its FB account in expressing elation for her new title.

“Holy Angel University congratulates Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental 2019 Ms. Emma Mary Tiglao who was a BS Tourism graduate of HAU in 2014. We are proud of you, Angelite!” it said in a post.

The Mabalacat City News, one of the local sources of news for Mabalaquenos abroad wrote ”Congratulations Queen Emma, Miss Intercontinental 2019, Best in National Costume, #certifiedMabalaquena.”
