Bing urges SP to approve Esplanade ordinance

BACOLOD City Mayor Evelio “Bing” Leonardia urged the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) to approve the ordinance regulating the activities at the Esplanade near the Bacolod Government Center (BGC).

The city officials along with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will inaugurate the P37-million Esplanade project Monday, June 17, 2019.

Leonardia said that when Congressman Greg Gasataya proposed the construction of the Esplanade, they talked with the landowner who donated the land of BGC.

He said one of the concerns of the landowner is the possible presence of vendors in the Esplanade.

He added the landowner asked them to approve an ordinance providing security to the Esplanade.

The Esplanade project was constructed with a flood wall, benches, railings, lighting facilities and blocks to make the area more attractive.

The half-kilometer Esplanade project has a total budget of P37 million. This is the first Esplanade project in Bacolod.

Esplanade is a long open, level area, typically beside a sea or river, along which people may walk for pleasure.

The SP earlier approved on first reading an ordinance regulating the activities at the Bacolod City Esplanade.

The proposed ordinance was authored by Councilor Em Ang, chairperson of the City Council committee on tourism.

Leonardia said that after the inauguration, the Esplanade will be open to the public and they will provide security in the area.

The mayor also asked Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) to secure the area and to avoid the vandalism at Esplanade.
