Mindoro prosecutor’s suspected attackers slain in shootout

THE two men suspected of shooting the provincial prosecutor of Mindoro Oriental were killed in a shootout with the police on Monday, June 17, 2019.

In a report, the police identified the suspects as Robert Magboo, 24 and Edeper Hindap Gran, 34.

They were tagged as responsible for the shooting of Mindoro Oriental Provincial Prosecutor Josephine Caranzo in Barangay Bayanan 2 in Calapan City a week ago, on June 10.

Caranzo survived the attack but sustained serious injuries in the incident.

The two suspects were killed after allegedly engaging police officers conducting surveillance operations against them in a shootout in the vicinity of their makeshift shelter in a ricefield in Barangay Sapul in Calapan City.

Recovered following the clash was a. 38 caliber pistol with magazine inserted.

Prior to the encounter, the police arrested Joven Umali, another suspect in the incident and recovered from him the alleged getaway vehicle in Barangay Managpi.

Recovered from the compartment of the motorcycle were two black helmets used by the suspects and a wallet containing photo ID, student permit and official receipt under Magboo's name and the. 45 caliber firearm allegedly used by the suspect against Caranzo.

The recovered caliber. 45 pistol was submitted to the Regional Crime Laboratory Office 4B for ballistics examination while a request for firearm verification will be submitted to the Philippine National Police Firearms and Explosives Office to identify the registered owner.

Charges against Umali are being prepared for filing. (SunStar Philippines)
