WE MIGHT as well enhance Cebu as an Education Hub. Our universities are highly competitive in producing competent professionals, relevant courses, topnotchers, state-of-the-art instructional materials and technology, high-rise and safe structures and good faculty.

Sad to say, our public schools equally need the attention and upgrading, like for bigger and safer classrooms, library and health services. I cannot understand why checkup of facilities is done last minute before the school opening. And only then, authorities discover leaking ceilings, lack of chairs, broken toilets etc.

This year’s board exams saw top students from the University of San Carlos, University of San Jose-Recoletos and University of Cebu. Cheers! A lot of Cebuanos are excelling in their studies abroad, getting leadership recognition and exemplary medals in special skills. Scholarship programs abound in many schools and private institutions. In the recent years, consistent top board passers were registered in Cebu Institute of Medicine, Cebu Doctors’ University, Cebu Normal University, Cebu Institute of Technology-University, to mention a few.

School year 2019-2020 opens in June, and again, schools gear toward quality education. Government agencies like the Commission on Higher Education and the Department of Education must make it easier to release funds to help our public schools and state universities.
