Ways to counter rainy day woes

THE recent showers signal the coming of the rainy season. While most of us complain about summer’s unbearable heat, the rain clouds aren’t exactly welcomed with open arms by many of us. Admit it, it’s no fun getting drenched under the pouring rain, especially when we’ve already made plans for the day. But that doesn’t mean there’s no way out of it. It’s just about setting the mood right to avoid the unpredictable situations.

Here are eight ways to make the most of the rainy season.

Enjoy a cup of hot coffee. Nothing beats keeping yourself warm on a chilly day with a cup of freshly brewed coffee. It’s the ideal pick-me-up drink when you need a little energy boost at work. A cup or two will do the trick to keep the dreary work mood away.

Read a novel. Gloomy weather? It’s the perfect setting to catch up on some reading. Imagine flipping through pages of a romantic novel with the falling of the raindrops as ambient noise. I’m sure you’ll finish a single book in no time.

Sleep in on weekends. After a long and draining work week, you deserve to sleep in on weekends. You’ll be dozing off like a new born baby with the temperature drop brought about by the rain showers. The cooler season definitely brings out the best bed weather days, so don’t feel too guilty about sleeping in.

Binge-watch on Netflix. The comfiest feeling in the world is when you’re snuggled down in your comforter during a rainy day. And matching this pleasant disposition is binge-watching your favorite movies and shows on Netflix. Now who wouldn’t want this kind of setup, right?

Go out for some retail therapy. It’s almost time to bid your summer wardrobe goodbye because the sweater weather season is slowly creeping up on us. If you’re not a fan of staying in at home even during the wet season, going out for some retail therapy is the perfect excuse. You will need to stock up on rainproof garments, anyway. Let’s call it “responsible shopping,” for now.

Plan a staycation. Don’t let the rain stop you from having fun with friends. When home gets a little too gloomy, you might want to check out awesome rooms on Airbnb where you and the whole gang can spend the night. If your friends are game to have fun all-night long, board and card games sound like a good idea.

Make a playlist. Every time the skies are somber, it often affects our state of mind. And the best remedy for a cheerless day, or anything for that matter, is good music. Curating your own rainy day playlist will surely liven up your groove despite the constant showers.

Get some exercise. There’s no doubt that the coming rainy season will make you want to stay in bed all-week long. Although that sounds really tempting, getting your body active is still the best option during this time of year. It doesn’t exactly have to be a full-on workout, but even doing something as simple as household chores can be considered as exercise.
