UV Lancers now 3-0 in Don Carlos caging

DON CARLOS, Bukidnon -- The University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers solidified their edge in the 8th Felix Manzano National Inter-Collegiate basketball tournament as they inked two straight wins on Monday, June 17, at the Don Carlos Bukidnon Astrodome here.

With the twin victories, the boys of UV coach Junil Maglasang is now up ahead with three wins without a loss in this pocket tournament, which will run up to June 18.

UV, the 2018 Cebu Schools Athletic Federation (Cesafi) men’s basketball champions, logged in its first win of the day over the Agro-Industrial cagers of Davao, 101-83, with Jancork Cabahug paving the way with 19 markers.

In the Green Lancers’ third win in the tournament being held in line with the celebration of the 2019 Araw ng Don Carlos, Cabahug waxed hot for UV as he registered 16 markers to help his team demolished the Holy Cross College of Davao Crusaders, 119-86.

The Green Lancers came out with all guns ablaze in their victory versus Holy Cross as they took the driver’s seat from the get go and never looked back again to secure the victory.

Aside from Cabahug, also scoring in double-digit scores for UV are Cometa, Froiland Maglasang, Fil-Foreign player Lassina Coulibaly and Heinrich Maestre with 14 baskets apiece, and the duo of Tanjay City, Negros Oriental-native Ted Saga and Kenneth Brillo, who splashed 10 points each.

The only bright note for the Crusaders were Miguel Christian de Loyola, who conked in 20 markers including six three pointers, and the tandem of Mariz Senarillos and Victor Marquez, Jr., who chipped in 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The Holy Cross College of Davao Crusaders, earlier registered a 95-85 victory over the Philippine Countryville College of Bukidnon before the former’s huge loss at the hands of the Green lancers.

The champion in this single-round robin tournament will receive P75,000 cash, while the 2nd, 3rd and 4th placers will take home P50,000, P30,000 and P20,000 each, respectively. (Jade S. Violeta)
