Former rebel beheaded by ‘colleagues’

AN ALLEGED member of the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (Cafgu) military auxiliary forces was beheaded by suspected New People's Army (NPA) rebels.

First Lieutenant Jonald Romorosa, civil military officer of the 36th Infantry Battalion, said troops recovered the decapitated body of a certain Ryard Badiang, 24, a resident of Lanuza, Surigao del Sur.

Romorosa said Badiang's head was found 10 meters away from where his body was located, in a remote area in Sitio Banahaw, Maitum, Tandag City.

Badiang was among the 8 persons abducted by armed men, believed to be members of NPA last May 30.

The 7 other persons were released few months ago, except for Badiang.

According to the Police Regional Office in Caraga, Badiang was a former rebel who became Cafgu member.

"He was off duty at the time, working, when he was abducted," Romoro said.

The military said the civilians were drifting cut logs (balsa) at the vicinity of Sitio Pog part of Tandag River when rebels took them by surprise.

Romorosa said the family was able to positively identify Badiang through his clothes and wristwatch.

Badiang left behind his pregnant wife.
