PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Judy Carol Dansal as the new administrator of the National Food Authority (NFA).

This was confirmed by NFA officer-in-charge Tomas Escarez in a phone interview on Tuesday, June 18.

Escarez said Dansal took her oath on Tuesday, June 18, before Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol, who concurrently serves as head of NFA Council.

"Nag-take oath siya as administrator [ng NFA] sa chairman ng NFA Council, who is the Secretary of Agriculture, Secretary Piñol (She took oath as NFA administrator befor ethe chairman of NFA Council, who is the Secretary of Agriculture, Secretary Piñol)," he said.

"Kanina [She took oath earlier Tuesday]. It's a very simple oath-taking," Escarez added.

Palace has yet to release Dansal's appointment paper.

Dansal replaced former NFA administrator Jason Aquino, who resigned in September 2018 amid the rice crisis in the country.

Escarez said Dansal would serve the unexpired term of Aquino, which started in July last year and will expire on June 30 this year.

Prior to her new stint, Dansal served as NFA deputy administrator for Marketing Operations.

Dansal's appointment came four months after Duterte signed Republic Act 11204, which strips the NFA of its regulatory functions over international and domestic trading of rice. (SunStar Philippines)
