ORGANIZERS of the annual Dabaw Lunhaw Awards are calling for more nominees, including local government units, barangays and government agencies.

Lunhaw Awards is an event organized by the City Government of Davao, in partnership with Interface Development Interventions (Idis), City Agriculturist Office, City Environment and Natural Resources Office, Davao City Water District, and Davao Association of Catholic Schools (Dacs).

The award aims to give recognition to Dabawenyos for their green initiatives, which could be replicated in the communities in the city.

Dacs executive director Jimmy-Lou Dela Vega said the nomination is open to all individuals or groups, both public and private.

"Our main purpose is to recognize individuals and groups that have green initiatives, complimenting the different ordinances by the city government that regulates and promotes environmentally sound practices in our communities," Dela Vega said Monday, June 17, during the flag raising ceremony at the City Hall of Davao.

He said award-giving bodies such as Lunhaw Awards, now on its seventh year, has huge contribution in encouraging more Dabawenyos to actively participate in the current environmental woes the city is facing.

"This is something we can do as a city, to really cultivate a culture of concern for the environment, and ensure a more sustainable, more healthy environment for ourselves, and for the future Dabawenyos," Dela Vega said.

The awarding ceremony will have different categories including initiatives in the area of Green Building (Urban Greening), Forest-Based Initiatives, Rural And Urban Organic Farming, Energy Band Water Conservation, Marine Resource Management, and Pollution Control, Education And Advocacy.

Idis representative Judy Ann Legaspi said this year's theme will be different from the previous awardings.

"This year, we would like to take focus on what we have done to curb down the problem of garbage in our the community in a way that's innovative and relatable," Legaspi said in a previous interview.

Nomination forms are available in Idis's website (idisphil.org).

Deadline of submission is on July 15. Nominees could submit their form through the City Administrator's Office at the City Hall of Davao or at Dacs office located in Juna Subdivision in Matina.
