A TOTAL of 500 public school students in Barangay Tabuyuc, Apalit received Tuesday, June 18, school supplies as part of the "Isang Lapis at Papel" program implemented by the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) in the village.

Barangay Tabuyuc SK Chairman EJ Salonga led the distribution of school packs containing notebooks, intermediate pads and pencils to indigent students of Sto. Rosario Elementary School, Sto. Rosario High School and Alauli Elemetary School.

Salonga said the recipients, wherein 220 came from Sto. Rosario Elementary School, 170 in Alauli Elementary School, and 110 in Sto. Rosario High School, were all identified as indigent and deserving.

Salonga said the SK's Isang Lapis at Papel program was formulated through his vision to help send every child in their village to school in the hope of bringing them a brighter future.

"Pagkaupo ko pa lang, tinarget ko na agad the plans supporting education dito sa barangay namin kasi ang daming batang gustong mag-aral pero kapos. So, even through simple things, I've planned this giving of school supplies targeting 500 indigent students," he said.

Salonga expressed hope that the project will serve its purpose of providing assistance to parents and bringing joy to students while at the same time boosting the confidence of students in going to school.

"There is joy in serving and there is joy in giving. Walang maliit na bagay sa malaking pusong handang maglingkod," he said.

The SK chairman also disclosed his plans to upgrade the services offered by SK to youth in their village through scholarship programs to indigent but deserving ones.
