Debulgado ready to chair finance committee

BOARD Member Rommel Debulgado said he is ready to be the chairman of the powerful finance and budget committees if it will be given to him.

"It needs political will and commitment," Debulgado said.

He said the work of the committee is "tedious."

"I will wait if it will be given to me because this is the reason why we are here for to render public service," he said.

Debulgado also thanked his constituents in the First District for the mandate and trust they gave so he can serve them.

He got the biggest number of votes among the winning members of the Negros Occidental Provincial Board.

As of the moment, there is still no committee assignment, he said.

"I expect the new board members to meet for a caucus before the inaugural session on July 3 to discuss the committees," he added.

Lawyer Maki Angela Ascalon, secretary to the Provincial Board, earlier said: "During the past administrations, the committee chairmanship is discussed among the board members but based on the Internal Rules there should be an election."

She said the rules are suspended during the inaugural session and authority is given to the vice governor to assign committees to the board members.

"At present, there are 30 committees in the Provincial Board and we follow the rule where each board member will have two committees each," Ascalon said.

Debulgado also said majority of the new batch of board members belong to Love Negros.
