HOW well do you know Bangladesh?
The answers may vary but one thing is certain, this South Asian country has something grand to offer as far as tourism, culture, and traditions are concerned.
To further introduce Bangladesh to Dabawenyos, the Embassy of Bangladesh to the Philippines and the Honorary Consulate of Bangladesh in Mindanao presented last June 7 to 9, 2019 a photo exhibit about the rich culture and diverse way of life in Bangladesh.
The photo exhibit which was mounted at the SM Lanang Premier Atrium ground floor features the works of two Dabawenyo lifestyle journalists - architect Michaelangelo E. Dakudao and Ian Gerald “Jinggoy” Salvador who both visited Bangladesh early this year in a media exchange program.
Honorary Consul General of Bangladesh for Mindanao Joji Ilagan-Bian emphasized in her speech during the opening of the exhibit that this event proved the improved relationship between Bangladesh and Philippines particularly Mindanao.
Bangladesh Ambassador to the Philippines Asad Alam Siam shared that the exhibit is a milestone for the diplomatic relationship between two countries as it was the first-ever event the Embassy of Bangladesh to the Philippines had outside Metro Manila.
“We started going out in Manila since we assigned Ma’am Bian as Honorary Consul General in 2018,” he said. This event was really aimed to promote Bangladesh to Filipinos,” he said.
He added that after the photo exhibit, they are brewing another event in Davao City - the Shari exhibit. Shari is the national wear of Bangladeshi women.
“Filipinos should know that Bangladesh is not far away, and we have almost the same culture and traditions,” Siam said.
Some of the must-visit tourist attractions in Bangladesh are Cox’s Bazar, National Martyr’s Memorial in Savar, St. Martin’s Island, and Ahsan Manzil among others.
