Manila motorcade for Donaire, Concepcion today

FILIPINO boxing champions Nonito Donaire Jr. and Bernabe Concepcion will be holding a motorcade around the streets of Manila today, March 1.

The motorcade organized by the Manila city government will start after the 8 a.m. flag raising ceremony at the Freedom Triangle, Manila City Hall.

The starting point of the motorcade is the Freedom Triangle. From there, the motorcade will proceed to Arroceros Street, left to Concepcion St., right to Taft Ave., right to Escolta St., u-turn to Plaza Sta. Cruz, right to Bustos, left to Avenida, left to Recto, right to Delpan, left to Zaragosa, right to Road 10, right to Capulong, straight to Tayuman, right to Gov. Forbes, left to España, right to Maceda, right to Fajardo, left to Earnshaw, right to Legarda, right to Concepcion and will end at the Manila City Hall.

The City Government said Donaire and Concepcion will be holding the motorcade together, although aboard separate vehicles, so that their fans and supporters from Manila will be able “to extend their gratitude and at least see a glimpse of the new Filipino boxing heroes.”

Lim will not be boarding the same vehicle with Donaire and Concepcion, stressing that he wants them to enjoy their hard-earned glory.

“After all, they were the ones who fought it out hard in the ring and brought pride to our country,” Lim said.

Donaire and Concepcion both knocked down their opponents during their recent fighting bout held in Las Vegas last February 14.

The 27-year-old retained his title as the World Boxing Association interim super flyweight champion after he defeated his Mexican opponent Manuel Vargas. He offered his victory to the late President Corazon Aquino.

Concepcion, on the other hand, is the new World Boxing Organization featherweight champion after beating his Puerto Rican opponent in the middle round of their fight. (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
