MCPO eyes Kuratong in murder of trader

POLICE are now 80 percent certain that robbery was the motive for the murder of a businessman in Mandaue City on Sunday night, June 16, 2019.

The killing of Yi Feng Guo Yang bolstered the suspicion of authorities that the robbery group Kuratong Baleleng is still in the city.

Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) Director Julian Entoma said investigators have already talked to the businessman’s daughter and some employees.

Testimonies gathered by the police showed that after the 51-year-old Yang was shot, the vehicle he was driving stopped. Then, one of the culprits shot the victim again and grabbed the bag, which reportedly contained about P60,000.

Police believe that the stolen cash was the total sales from Yang’s stores in Consolacion and Barangay Basak, Mandaue City.

The family and employees of Yang are not aware of any person who was in conflict with the businessman.

Yang, according to testimonies, often personally drove the service van containing the goods he was selling.

Entoma believes that the suspects are expert robbers based on how the crime was carried out.

“We noted the presence of this group (Kuratong) during the elections. That is why we are checking if they are still around and if they are the suspects,” Entoma said. (from FMD of SuperBalita Cebu/MVG)
