DAVAO City’s amateur boxing team eked out six wins in eight bouts during the dual meet against Cabadbaran pugs held Thursday, June 20, in the municipality of Las Nieves, Agusan del Norte.

Dabawenyo Cyril Joshua Revilla defeated Justine Araguis via unanimous decision in their kid’s division 32 kilograms (kgs.) bout while Ariel Antimano of Davao City scored a technical knockout victory over Mark Vincent Rabi in 48 kgs. in youth boys 46 kgs.

Joshua Padual, Wesley Caga, Alven Gonzales and former Reymond Albupera also won for Davao City after beating their respective rivals.

Padual grabbed a unanimous decision win over Janbert Bernat (60 kgs) while Caga took a TKO triumph against Junrey Hinayon even as Gonzales escaped with a split decision win over Felmar Antiga and Albupera dominated Kent Norbert Wacay in 52 kgs. via TKO.

Obet Diaño and Roben Lanasa, however, lost their matches. Diaño bowed to Rafael Cortes (32 kgs) while Lanasa succumbed to Rafael Dagani (64 kgs) in split decision bouts.

On his Facebook post, Davao coach Librado Sagarino commended his wards, saying, “Congrats ninyo bisag layo adto gyud ta. Insayo gyod mo pag-ayo para abot ninyo inyong pangarap (Congrats to all of you despite the long travel, we still went. Continue to train hard so you could reach your dreams).”

Sagarino, in a Facebook interview yesterday, said joining the tournament was a good exposure for the boxers.

He added, “Wala nako gikuyog akong pang Batang Pinoy kay subawan sige man taligsik. Ang isa kay mahadlok maka-absent sa klase (I didn’t bring those who will compete in the Batang Pinoy since the weather was also not good while the other boxer didn’t want to miss his classes).”
