Police chief selection back from the start

THE selection process of the next Cagayan de Oro City police chief is back to square one after the police official originally chosen was reassigned in Camp Crame just recently.

Mayor Oscar Moreno said he has to choose among three more names in the list of candidates and will reconvene with Police Regional Office director Brigadier General Rafael Santiago.

Moreno added that they have agreed to select Police Colonel Benedicto Pintor after reviewing his strengths and weaknesses. But Pintor already moved to Camp Crame for another assignment.

Pintor served as provincial director of the Bukidnon Police Provincial Office.

“It’s a loss to Cagayan de Oro, but a gain sa (to the) intelligence community, okay lang (it’s okay). Familiar siya sa terrain diri (he was familiar with the city’s terrains), so gamit siya sa (so he will be useful in) Crame for Region 10,” he said.

“We’ll have to choose another one, dili man na problema (it’s not a problem), we will weigh pros and cons. But there is no perfect person, ang importante (what is important) is the correct ingredients are there,” he added.

Moreno said he will have to ask another 5-10 days to choose another one that would replace the late Police Colonel Nelson Aganon.

The mayor, however, refused to reveal the names of the three remaining candidates. (PJ Orias)
