THE Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) confiscated 3,650 grams of shabu and 110,580 grams of marijuana with a total Dangerous Drugs Board value of P30.9 million from April to June 2019.

The confiscation of these illegal drugs stemmed from the 504 operations conducted by the CPPO, which led to the arrest of 675 persons.

Police have also filed 838 drug-related cases in the last three months.

These were among the developments revealed during the presentation of accomplishments in the second quarterly Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (Padac) meeting Thursday, June 20, 2019.

Town mayors, Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Council focal persons and Padac members from national government agencies joined the meeting presided over by outgoing Gov. Hilario Davide III.

Aside from the CPPO, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (Pdea) 7 also gave updates on barangay drug clearing operations.

As of June 17, 2019, only 19 of 1,066 barangays in the province remained unaffected by illegal drugs.

Around 1,047 barangays are still affected by illegal drugs, while some 245 barangays were declared drug-cleared last year.

According to Pdea’s operational accomplishment report, it conducted 44 operations from January to June 20, including joint operations with the police.

Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Office (Cpadao) Head Carmen Remedios Durano-Meca, for her part, highlighted the recent inauguration of the New Life Center in Pinamungajan town.

A joint project of the Capitol and Globe Telecom, New Life is the first drug rehabilitation facility in Cebu supervised by the Provincial Government.

During the meeting, Davide expressed his gratitude to Cpadao, the council’s members and stakeholders for their support and continued commitment in the campaign against illegal drugs. (RTF)
