Caburnay, Abella rule Hunat Sugbo

KEENAN Caburnay and Lizanne Abella ruled the ninth edition of the Hunat Sugbo: Dagan Para Ni Maning, winning the men’s and women’s 21-kilometer category, respectively, at the Terraces, Ayala Center Cebu on Sunday, June 23, 2019.

Caburnay crossed the finish line in 1 hour, 15 minutes and 16 seconds to win the men’s half-marathon title over veteran runner Noel Tillor, who clocked 1:18:52 for second place.

Jerome Casinillo nabbed third place with a time of 1:18:52.

Lizane Abella topped the women’s side with a time of 1:33:23. Evamie Villarin finished in 1:34:09 for second place, followed by Stephan Jaysom in 1:40:47.

Gemar Magdalino won the men’s 12K race in 43:16, edging out Michael Largo by 45 seconds. Egdemio Avendamo was at distant third after clocking in 1:01:49.

Lovely Fe Andrin snagged the women’s 12K crown in 58:43, Ezel Conde finished in 59:48 to take second palce and Maria Lina Duranga got third place in 1:01:50.

In the 6K race, junior triathelte Marielle Estreba dominated the women’s division with a time of 29:13. Eim Espina placed second in 31:30 and Jann Alison Arcenas settled for third in 42:16.

Jonathan Pulido won the men’s side in 21:15, beating Jovan Bensig by 10 seconds. Earl Peonila finished third in 21:55.

Jerome Sayre was the fastest runner in the 3K race, winning the men’s crown with a time of 10:56, just one second ahead of closest pursuer Rinmarch Gonzaga. Darwin Locaylocay placed third in 11:11.

Antoinette Velaya won the women’s 3K in 14:50, Erian Culango came second in 14:40 and Jennylyn Paragoso was third in 20:32. (RSC)
