Contractor insists collapsed ceiling not substandard

THE contractor of a classroom that collapsed last week clarified over the weekend that their project at Domingo Lacson National High School is not sub-standard and that they followed the specifications of the project.

Engineer Abe Gilbor, President of Supreme ABF Construction explained that there was an object that gave load to the ceiling that's why it collapsed.

"The ceiling support are metal parring which is based on the specifications of the project and is now commonly used. Maybe the burglar stayed up there at the ceiling and gathered some of his stolen materials that's why there was weight up there, the reason why it collapsed", Gilbor said.

The collapsed ceiling is found at the third floor of the school building which was turned over by the contractor to the school two years ago.

The incident happened Tuesday last week and fortunately no one was hurt because it was a holiday.

Gilbor said that they will repair and shoulder for the damage that would cost them around P80,000.

He emphasized that they have evidence to prove that burglars entered the school building as several items like door knobs, convenience outlets and electrical wires were lost.

Gilbor further assured that they always observe quality in the projects.

Bacolod City Lone District Representative Greg Gasataya has already directed the Department of Public Works and Highways to conduct an investigation into the incident.
