Tough Gear faces Cebu Elite-USC

THE Tough Gear/Southwestern University (SWU-Phinma) Baby Cobras will be going for their third win when they face the Cebu Elite/ University of San Carlos (USC) Baby Warriors in the high school division of the 2019 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) Partners Cup at the Cebu Coliseum on Wednesday, June 26, 2019.

The Baby Cobras defeated the University of Cebu-Lapu-Lapu Mandaue (UCLM) in their last game to bounce back from a loss at the hands of the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildkittens.

SWU-Phinma holds a 2-1 (win-loss) record, while USC has a 1-2 card.

In the college division, the University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USP-F) Panthers will take on the slumping Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats.

The Panthers will be going for their second win in four games, while the Wildcats are still looking for the first win in the preseason.

In last Sunday’s games, the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Baby Jaguars put an end to the winning streak of the Hotel Fortuna/University of Cebu (UC) Junior Webmasters, 74-46, in the high school division.

Kendrick Abarquez, who was the MVP in the recently concluded Governor’s Cup Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament, poured in 20 points for the Baby Jaguars.

USJ-R improved to 2-1 card, while UC dropped to 3-1 slate.

In the main game, three-time regular season champions University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers defeated the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors, 84-64.

UV, which partners with the ARQ Builders in this preseason tournament, improved to a 2-0 card, while the Cebu Landmasters/USC dropped to a 3-2 slate.

The college division teams will play a double-round robin elimination round, while the high school division will follow a single-round robin format. The top four teams will advance to the semifinals with the top two teams getting a twice-to-beat advantage. (RSC)
