Zamboanga City joins Arbor Day activity

ZAMBOANGUEÑOS from different sectors will troop to the village of Pasonanca on Tuesday, June 25, to take part in the nationwide tree planting effort for the 2019 Arbor Day observance.

Engineer Reynaldo Gonzales, Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR) chief, said the tree planting activity will be held within the Pasonanca Natural Park, specifically at Sitio Banuang, following a brief opening program.

Gonzales said the participants will be planting thousands of seedlings of indigenous species such as palomaria, narra, and nato.

He said Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar, along with local officials and employees, is expected to lead the event.

Also expected to attend are national government agencies, non-government organizations, the academe, industries and business sector, security forces, and village officials.

The Arbor Day in Zamboanga City is pursuant to City Ordinance 281, which likewise draws on Section 8 of Republic Act 10176, an act reviving the observance of Arbor Day. (SunStar Philippines)
