Rebels beat Halbstarkein

THE reunited Rebels softball team took prey on the Halbstarkein squad in a two-game friendly match held at the East Visayan Academy grounds in Bulacao, Talisay City yesterday.

The Rebels who had a reunion match only last week took the diamond literally limping, on their way to defeat Halbstarkein, 7-5 and 7-4, in two games.

Once a feared local squad in local batted sports tournaments, the Rebels started the first match with 5 runs courtesy from Louie Ramos, Jonathan Burgos, one of its founders Alintone Adolfo, Sherwin Bentulan and Mark Quiñones for a 5-0 lead at the top of the first inning.

Homer

Adolfo then hit a homer for the Rebels to lead, 6-0, and Ramos gave the Rebels its last run for a 7-0 lead at the top of the third.

However, the fatigue slowly caught up the Rebels as Richard de la Cerna and Andrew Solon made it, 2-6, at the bottom of the third for Halbs-tarkein.

A homerun by Ognir Sadaya took Barry Burgos to the homeplate as Halbstarkein inched closer, 4-7, at the end of the fourth inning but a lonesome run by Eric de la Cerna in the final fifth inning saved the Rebels from defeat.

In the second match, Michael Lopez hit a homer for a three run at the top of the second inning for Halbs-tarkein. Allan Defensor scored the lone run for the Rebels to end the inning.

Lead

Teofilo Sadaya then gave Halbstarkein a 4-1 lead after the fourth and the Rebels countered with two runs from Jonathan Burgos and Quiñones.

The Rebels then gave their best for the final push and held Halbstarkein scoreless in the next two innings while Joshua Rafanan scored a homer to lead a four-run fifth innings to secure the win for the once decorated squad.

Match organizer Lopez, announced that there will be more fast-pitched softball matches which will be held at the EVA grounds in the coming days.
